How is the snow measured????

Below are close up pictures of the two snow gauges used in the Keystone Web Cams. We use these contraptions in combination with reports from snowmobile trail groomers, skier/snowmobile reports and automated snow gauges in the mountains used by the USGS.

Critter Crossing Snow Gauge

Large spool is 28 inches, smaller spool is 20 inches, log on top is 12 inches, orange log sitting on large spool is 10 inches, skinny log on large spool is 6 inches.

 

Keystone Cam Snow Gauge

Bottom of board is 20 inches above the ground level, first red stripe from the bottom is 24 inches, 3rd stripe 36 inches, 4th stripe 48 inches, 5th stripe is 60 inches. Small board attached to the horizontal board is exactly 12 inches. ©(Snowboard built by DayFam Snow Gauges, LLC.)
